if the clip is out.. all the way.. just pull up as hard as you can. don't twist it.

got the pin out but cant get it off no matter how hard i pull and i dont want to brake it and have to go back to the yard again and fight to get a new one off.

and does the shifter cable that attaches to the actual neutral safety switch come in one solid cable all the back to the shifter or does it seperate in two somewhere under the hood..?

the reason i ask is because the white plastic clip at the side on the cable by the neutral safety switch is stripped and slides off the switch freely.. so i need to know if i can replace a peice or do i have to replace the whole cable....

and i changed the alternator and i put the shifter cable back on the switch and played with the shifter and now it starts right up every time so far for the last 2 hours...

lets see what happens over time but i need to know about the cable being replaced...

FWIW, i recently replaced mine because the knob body cracked and wouldn't stay on. You can probably find a stock shift knob at autozone. Thats where I got mine. (1988 Olds Delta8

If yours has a plastic body like mine, I would try squeezing it with vice grips to crack the knob body, rather than pulling it off.
Mine was made of plastic and it cracked, so I think with a little effort you shuld be able to crack it and it should slide off easily. Of course, you will have to buy a new one, but mine was only $4.99.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
